The Speaker Punjab Assembly Revoked all the Powers of the Deputy Speaker

The PTI has filed a no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Dost Muhammad Mazari.

A no-confidence motion against the Deputy Speaker was filed in the office of the Secretary Assembly on Wednesday morning.

In this regard, the PML-Q spokesman said that after the no-confidence motion was filed, Dost Muhammad Mazari was not authorized to convene the assembly.

A spokesman for the Punjab Assembly clarified that the meeting of the Punjab Assembly would be held on April 16 as per its schedule.

Earlier, Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Dost Muhammad Mazari had convened a meeting of the Assembly at 7.30 pm on Wednesday.

The Speaker Punjab Assembly revoked the powers of the Deputy Speaker

Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has withdrawn the powers of Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari.

In this regard, the notification issued on Wednesday said that the Punjab Assembly has withdrawn the powers of the Deputy Speaker under Article 235.

“These powers are being withdrawn on the instructions of the Speaker. A copy of the notification has also been sent to all the concerned agencies.”

A spokesman for the Punjab Assembly said in a statement that “after the withdrawal of powers, the Deputy Speaker can neither convene any meeting nor preside over any meeting.”

“If the deputy speaker presides over a meeting, he will be violating the constitution.”

A spokesperson of the Punjab Assembly said that there was no diary number or record of the orders of the Deputy Speaker. The meeting of the Punjab Assembly would be held on April 16 as per its schedule.

Deputy Speaker Dost Mohammad Mazari said, “They are confused and discouraged.”

The Advocate General Punjab had assured the Supreme Court that the election of the Leader of the House in Punjab would be held soon.

“I decided to convene a meeting of the Punjab Assembly after consulting legal experts,” he said.

In response to a question, the Deputy Speaker said, “If the meeting could not be held inside the Assembly building, then it could be held elsewhere.”

On the other hand, the PML-N delegation, which had come to file a no-confidence motion against Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, was barred from entering the Assembly Secretariat.

After being prevented from entering the Assembly Secretariat on Wednesday, the PML-N delegation staged a sit-in at the Assembly gate and left shortly after.

PML-N member Punjab Assembly Khawaja Salman Rafique said, “We are going back to Hotak after recording our protest.”

“We will work out a plan of action for the future after consulting our leadership,” he said.

After the sit-in was called by the opposition members, a heavy contingent of police was deployed inside and outside the Punjab Assembly.

The assembly secretariat also summoned additional police personnel while the assembly building was sealed off with barbed wire.

The text of the no-confidence motion against Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that the majority in this House did not trust the Speaker Punjab Assembly.

“The affairs of Punjab province are not being run in accordance with the constitution of Pakistan and they have uprooted the democratic traditions in the province.”

Political crisis intensified in Punjab Assembly

The Punjab Assembly administration has refused to accept the meeting convened by Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari while the opposition has announced its participation in the meeting convened by the Deputy Speaker.

A heavy contingent of police has been deployed around the Punjab Assembly building to deal with any situation.

Meanwhile, during the hearing of the suo motu notice case regarding the rolling of the Deputy Speaker, Chief Justice of Pakistan Omar Ata Bandial remarked that “we cannot interfere in the situation of the Punjab Assembly.”

“We will decide on Thursday whether to hear the case in the Punjab Assembly or send it to the Lahore High Court.”

During the hearing of the case in the Supreme Court, PML-N lawyer Azam Nazir Tarar told the court that the doors of the Punjab Assembly were not being opened.

“It is heartbreaking that Punjab province has been running without a chief minister for six days now. The government does not have a majority so elections are not being allowed.”

On this, the Chief Justice remarked that “we cannot interfere in the situation of the Punjab Assembly. It is not a small matter for the Punjab Assembly to start passing short orders.”

The Chief Justice said, “We want to decide on the matter of the National Assembly first. The members of the National Assembly behaved very politely in spite of all circumstances. We appreciate the good behavior of the members of the National Assembly.”

Lawyer Secretary Punjab Assembly said that there was a lot of disruption in the assembly so the meeting was adjourned till April 16.

“The deputy speaker has been missing since this morning. He is not being contacted. The notification of this evening’s meeting is fake.”

The Chief Justice said, “If the system is not cooperating, then the constitutional officials can use their power. If the Deputy Speaker wants, he can also convene a meeting in Bagh-e-Jinnah.”

Maryam Nawaz announces to go to Punjab Assembly

PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz has said that Hamza Shahbaz, the Chief Ministerial candidate in the Punjab Assembly, has a clear majority.
